Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
